The hike to Herzogstand is moderately challenging but not too steep, making it accessible for most hikers. Along the way, you'll encounter a zigzag route that offers a choice: stick to the regular path or take a steeper shortcut through the fields. This adds a bit of variety and challenge to the hike.

The total duration is approximately 3 hours, plus a one-hour break to enjoy the surroundings and catch your breath.

Car/Public Transport
The hike starts with a train journey to Kochel, followed by a bus ride. Be prepared for a crowded commute as many people frequent this route, often leaving no seats available. Arriving at the starting point around 10:30 AM, you'll be ready to embark on the hike.


Essential tips for your visit to Herzogstand
- After completing the hike, you'll reach the beer garden at the top around 4:00 PM. This is the perfect spot to relax, enjoy a cold drink, and take in the panoramic views of the Bavarian landscape. It’s a well-deserved reward after the hike.
- To descend, you can take the cable car, which departs at around 4:40 PM. The ride takes only 5 minutes, offering a quick and scenic return to the base. This is a great way to end the day, saving your energy after the hike and giving you a different perspective of the mountain.
- It is also possible to hike Herzogstand from the other side. The hike should be more challenging but also more breathtaking. Unfortunately, I didn't try taking the other route yet.
